Jiddat web Desk ,March 5, 2018 ::The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has introduced a Universal Primary Enrolment (UPE) Campaign—2018. The main objective of the campaign is to enrol ninety-five percent (95%) of the children to school. Under the campaign, special teams are also set up for monitoring the campaign and to do door-to-door campaigning.All District Education Authorities (DEAs) have been sent letters by the SED of the province. In the letter the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the DEAs have been asked to lead the campaign in their respective dominions.The letter mentions that the campaign has been launched in compliance with the Chief Minister’s agenda of acquiring a ninety-five percent (95%) participation rate in the children who are aged between five to nine years. The School Education Department is proud to announce the launch of the UPE Campaign—2018. The campaign’s first phase begun on the 2nd of March 2018 and would be running until the school closes for summer vacations. The second phase of the campaign would be announced sometime later.
Committee Members and Their Roles:
A special UPE committee has also been established with the aim of managing the campaign.

– inform the districts about the dropouts so that they could follow up
|Faizullah Tareen||Provincial Manager Door-to-Door enrolment campaign||– responsible for the daily management and for directing the awareness events|
– responsible to make sure that school bags and uniforms would be provided to children as incentives to get enrolled in the schools using the non-salary budget (NSB)
|Mushtaq Ahmed Sial||Provincial Manager Access to Education||– implement the schemes targeted at raising access to education via satellite schools|
The department has taken the decision that on weekly basis the committee would be meeting and would take district-level performance against the set enrolment targets.
The campaign would be run until the 31st of May before the summer vacations commences—which is expected from the 1st of June.
The SED secretary—Dr Allah Baksh Malik said that the first aim of the campaign would be to get the students enrolled in schools who have come of age meaning in between five and nine years at any cost.
