Jiddat Web Desk ::The federal government has introduced a campaign on Monday for making Islamabad a smoke free city as per the reports of Radio Pakistan.In the initial phase, Pakistan Monument and Shakarparian have been referred to as the smoke-free areas.
While speaking to the journalists on the occasion, the Minister for National Health Services—Aamer Mehmood Kiani said that the smoke-free campaign has been introduced with the view to make the federal capital a model city not just for Pakistan but also for the entire world.
Mentioning the adverse impact of smoking on the lives of the people, he said that nearly 160,000 people die per year in Pakistan owing to smoking. He said that there is a law which bars smoking at public places, but this law was never put into effect.
Kiani said that smoking would now be banned at all the public spots which include the premises of National Assembly and the Senate. The minister said that the Capital Development Authority has also been instructed to encourage healthy activities in the federal capital.
He added that the health division has never remained a preference in the past, but the current government is trying to bring betterment in it.Aamer Mehmood Kiani had requested the Advisor to the PM on Climate Change yesterday to carry out an assessment of the air quality.
